What does my Funeral Cover do?

If you die, the cover amount (or sum assured) of the Funeral Cover policy is paid out to your beneficiaries. If one of your family members who are covered on your policy passes away, the cover amount will be paid to you. The cover amounts will be paid within two business days of receiving all required documentation.

What can my Funeral Cover be used for?

  • Paying for immediate funeral expenses
  • Assist with short-term financial needs
  • Help avoid significant debt from a funeral
  • Cover multiple members of your family

What does my Funeral Cover not cover?

If any life covered causes their own death, and it is believed that suicide was intended, within the first 12 months of having the policy.

Deaths due to natural causes within the first six months of cover (unless the covered life was replacing existing funeral cover).

How much Funeral Cover can I buy?

You can buy Funeral Cover of between R10 000 and R100 000, and between R5 000 to R50 000 for additional lives covered (excluding children under 6 years old, who will only receive a maximum of R20 000 cover).

When does my Funeral Cover expire?

Funeral Cover only expires when you die.

How can I customise my Funeral Cover?

You can customise your Funeral Cover in the following ways:

  • Add your partner and up to 10 children to your policy
  • Add up to 4 parents and parents-in-law
  • Add up to 8 extended family members (grandparent, aunt, uncle, niece, nephew, biological cousin, grandchildren, children over 21 years old)
  • Setting a specific cover amount for each covered life

Is there a Waiting Period on my Funeral Cover?

A 6-month waiting period applies to all people insured under the policy, during which only accidental death is covered. If you replaced existing funeral cover for any life with a different company, this could reduce your waiting period.

Is there an age limit in applying for Funeral Cover?

The maximum joining age for the policyholder is 65 years. The maximum joining age for grandparents and parents is 75 years. For every other additional life (for example aunts, uncles, siblings, grandchildren and biological cousins), the maximum joining age is 65 years of age. Once the first premium has been collected on the policy, it will remain active for all covered lives unless the policyholder chooses to cancel the policy or remove covered lives, or if there is failure to pay the policy, or if the policyholder passes away.
